Also, rest assured that some dental treatments are (unfairly) associated with pain only because they are “tasked” with resolving problems like severe decay and infection. These problems cause aching teeth, swelling, and all sorts of issues that interfere with eating, sleep, work – well, everything!

Even the Notorious RCT – Root Canal Therapy – is nothing to fear. If you have damage that can’t be treated with other means, RCT removes the pain by removing the infected tissues inside the tooth. It’s like giving your tooth a clean slate and a fresh start.

Depending on your needs, we may also put you on a course of bacteria-fighting meds before we perform this treatment. That way, your infection is cleared with antibiotics. This is important from a patient comfort perspective because infected teeth can be challenging- nearly impossible to fully numb. We want to avoid treating a tooth that cannot be numbed. So you can stay as comfortable as possible throughout treatment.

Dean Dietrich, DDM

Dr. Dean Dietrich has been practicing dentistry since 1986, when he received his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Southern Illinois University's School of Dental Medicine. He had completed his undergraduate studies in business marketing and management at Michigan State University from 1978 to 1982.

He opened Pleasant Dental in 2003 to provide excellent dental care and value for his patients. He is especially skilled and experienced with root canals, implants, and handling dental anxiety.

Dr. Dietrich is a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, Chicago Dental Society, and the Indian Dental Association. He is licensed in Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan and has orthodontic certification from the Academy of GP Orthodontics. Multiple agencies have recognized him annually as one of America’s Top Dentists.
