You take your car in for an oil change, right? You don’t go too long before mowing the lawn, replacing the lightbulbs, doing the “spring cleaning,” and so on. The same idea applies to our teeth! A little bit of “maintenance” goes a long way to keep you smiling!
Maintenance for your teeth looks something like this … brush and floss your teeth at home and keep up with your recommended appointments at Pleasant Dental® in Dolton.
We understand that traveling from South Holland or other parts of Northeastern Illinois to our office is another item to add to your already lengthy to-do list. But we promise check-ups will be hassle-free, maybe even a nice break from your hectic day. Our dentist will take a peek inside of your mouth. We may order x-rays to see what can’t be detected by just looking at your teeth or gums. Then, one of our hygienists will clean your teeth. That’s the gist of it (if all looks well)!
Great! Keep up the good work. But don’t stop there. Our hygienists have special training. They also use special cleaners and polishers to lift stubborn tartar. When tartar builds up on the teeth, you can’t remove it with just your toothbrush or floss. This is where our hygienists’ training comes into play. A bonus: We also remove surface stains to keep your teeth looking great. And you leave the office with a minty-fresh mouth that feels super clean.
That depends. Many dentists will talk about how you need to see them every six months. But you may need to visit more, or less, than two times a year. We’ll want to take a look at your mouth more often if your gums are vulnerable to disease. Or, if you have a recent history of active decay. We get to know your needs and can make recommendations from there. Periodic visits throughout the year save you time, money, and hassle over the long run. We like to prevent/protect– not treat when we do not have to (and when many problems with the mouth can be avoided).
Possibly not! If your teeth and gums are healthy, we want to keep it that way. Maintain good habits at home and check-ups at our office. If we spot something needing treatment, we’re upfront about your options. We will work with you to get your mouth back in top shape. Due for your check-up? Schedule yours today.
